Dalaman

Until recently, holidaymakers flying to Dalaman International Airport would by-pass the town in favour of more established resorts like Marmaris. However, couple of years ago the government designated Dalaman a major centre for tourism. New construction is fast taking place, and the area has become something of a property hotspot. A new marina and golf course are planned and the magnificent beach at Serigerme, having 5 star luxury holiday resorts attracts tourist from all around the world.
Less than an hour’s drive through the new Gocek Tunnel to the east of Dalaman is Fethiye, built on the site of the ancient city of Telemessos against a backdrop of pine-covered mountains. A well-established resort famous for its beaches, it retains the atmosphere of a working town and fishing port. As well as a rich historical legacy, it has a picturesque harbour, a lively market, and numerous shops and restaurants. To some, it resembles the French Riviera.
12 km drive from Fethiye brings you to paradise on earth, OluDeniz, meaning “Dead Sea”. It’s famous Blue Lagoon with crystal clear calm water and sandy beach is very popular with families.
25 km of the International airport is Dalyan an environmentally protected area with it’s golden sand Turtle beach, home for the endangered species of loggerhead breading turtles, where natural beauty remains unspoilt. For the health conscious, the sulphur mud baths and springs having healing qualities is a prayer come true.

The region
Here, where the Aegean and the Mediterranean meet, a combination of sweeping bays and quiet coves, jutting peninsulas and golden sands makes the coastline exceptionally picturesque. On the coastal plains, a variety of crops are grown, including cotton, cereals, citrus fruits, tobacco and vines. Further inland are lofty, rugged mountains.
Golf courses and luxury hotels are under construction, and the recently established new ski resort in the Taurus Mountains create a longer tourist season, benefiting holidaymakers and investors.

Getting There
Dalaman International airport is served by numerous services from major London and UK regional airports. April to October, a large number of low cost charter flights are easily available. Flights are also available between November and March to cater for the winter ski holiday makers.
